Born a child of Earth in the heart of France, it was in 2017, in Asia, that Bastien Soleil discovered his true element: water. This journey into adulthood was both a quest for self-discovery and an irrepressible need for freedom and happiness. And it turned out to be so much more.

 

After embarking on adventures worthy of a novel by Alexandre Dumas or Daniel Defoe, Bastien discovered freediving and soon began teaching it. A creator, a creative mind, and a resourceful man who makes no compromises, Bastien brings his terrestrial world underwater, transforming his initially photographic practice into a profoundly artistic one.

 

Using natural light, black and white, and highly symbolic, complex compositions, Bastien Soleil’s work unveils the natural beauty of his models through his sharp eye, capturing forms and depths with unmatched intimacy. Bastien opens our eyes to a very real universe—within our reach, yet one we often overlook. He reveals a world of sensuality and brutality, poetry and reality, shadow and light.
